Landscape

The landscape of Northern Ontario inspired the hand-embroidered tapestries featured here. The process of interpreting the forest, is my attempt to recall the beauty of a place and time.
In my left hand, a blank canvas – a swath of linen or wool. In my right hand, a needle – threaded with strands of cotton floss. With a single stitch, my journey begins.  The chain stitch is the foundation of my tapestries. French knots, whipped chain and Cretan stitches are layered to build the forms and the textures that evoke the Canadian Shield.
